How To Get Your Music Videos On Vevo and Why You’d WANT To

People don’t only listen to music but also watch music.

As an artist, you certainly already know the importance and impact of video marketing on music. Music videos play a powerful role in helping artists get exposure, gain more fans, book gigs and even more. And if you’re not using videos to market your music in today’s generation, you’re probably missing out on bigger opportunities already. With people's attention span becoming shorter nowadays, videos please audiences even more than they did before.

Videos? YouTube!... It’s not just you. Everyone immediately thinks of YouTube when “video” is mentioned. As an online video sharing and social media platform with over 2.7 billion monthly active users and with over 122 million daily visits, how do you stand out on such an incredible site? How would you gain a decent following?

We can’t stress this enough. YouTube is not the only video platform where you can market your videos.

An effective way to generate long-term traffic for your music is through YouTube and Vevo. By optimizing your video in the algorithm, you can get your videos in front of millions.

What is Vevo?

Vevo, or Video Evolution, is the world’s largest premium music video provider. It’s a global distribution platform founded by three music giants: Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and EMI. In short, Vevo maintains the largest network of music channels on YouTube, and also distributes music videos to major Connected TV platforms and streaming services, including Apple TV, Hulu + Live TV, Pluto TV, Samsung TV Plus, and Roku

Vevo offers fans worldwide a vast array of premium content to choose from, showcasing official music videos alongside a constantly developing lineup of live performances and innovative original programming. From top superstars to rising new talents, Vevo brings incomparable cross-promotional support to artists across the musical spectrum, at every stage of their careers.

What’s the BIG deal about Vevo?

Artists can only deliver their video content and create an official channel with Vevo through a verified content partner (look no further, we’ve got you!).

As mentioned, Vevo maintains the largest network of music channels on YouTube, and also distributes music videos to major Connected TV platforms and streaming services. Artists who host their videos on Vevo are also eligible for additional promotion of videos across the Vevo network, both on YouTube and major Connected TV platforms and streaming services, strategic editorial support on Vevo’s social networks, and customized and promoted playlisting – perfect for independent artists to leverage the credibility of their music brand!

Credibility. Having your own Vevo channel greatly boosts an artist’s credibility in the industry and helps you stand out from the crowd. (Imagine just enjoying a cup of coffee somewhere and being recognized that they’ve watched your music video and even loved it… Ooh! Made us giddy!)

Exposure. “You’re on Vevo? You must be BIG!” Being on Vevo helps drive more exposure, hence, the engagement for your music, brand, and video content. Vevo also has proprietary promotional opportunities such as Vevo Lift and Vevo Presents that could help make your brand be globally recognized.

If that’s not enough of a reason to put your videos on Vevo, how about we also talk about royalties? Monetizing videos should be a priority for independent artists and the best part is that Vevo pays higher than YouTube!

Before so, you must be able to learn how to optimize videos for maximum viewership to gain more earnings. Look into the inside scoop for independent artists like you looking to get their music heard and their music videos seen in the latter part of this article!

Royalties. Vevo compensates artists the best amongst any video hosting platforms. You will earn royalties every time your videos are viewed and you’ll be accredited the same royalties major label artists receive. It’s no brainer to say that the more videos you make and publish, all the more views you could possibly get, generating more revenue!

How much can you make on Vevo?

The monetary earnings from building a music career sure sounds exhilarating. However, before we get into the details, let us give you a quick checklist of the things that you would best need to secure firsthand.

  1. Sign up for Performance Rights Organization (PRO). PROs are responsible for collecting income on behalf of songwriters and music publishers when a song is publicly broadcast or performed. Public performances can include play on television or radio, in clubs and restaurants, on websites, or on other broadcasting systems. PROs collect license fees for this usage which they pay to their registered songwriters after taking a small fee. (ref. Performing Rights Organizations (PRO))

  2. Sign up for Sound Exchange. Sound Exchange is the largest neighboring non-profit collective rights management in the world. It is the sole organization designated by the U.S. Congress to collect and distribute digital performance royalties for sound recordings.

  3. Secure music licensing, a legal contract between the owner of the musical composition and a party which wishes to use it. The agreement typically includes provisions specifying what rights are granted, how much money will be paid for these rights, and when the payments will occur.

  4. Invest in PR. This will secure article placements, streaming, radio play, and so on and so forth, which will boost your exposure and help you gain fans and followers. Thus, keeping you ahead of the potential high earnings when you’re finally ready to put out your music video. (don’t worry, we got you! Our team and partners at PressedFresh Collective provide smorgasbord offerings for independent artists!)

Going back to our main subject, we don’t want to spoil the mood but we all know that no one gets rich overnight with streaming royalties. Vevo pays an estimated amount of $0.00222 to $0.0025 per view depending on the audience’s country. This is still higher than the $0.0.00069 per view payout from YouTube.
